New Delhi, Jan 20 (IANS) All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) MPs on Friday called on Home Minister Rajnath Singh and urged him to bring an ordinance for conducting Jallikattu, a bull-taming ancient sport of Tamil Nadu people.
The minister, according to sources, assured the MPs that the central government is considering the issue and it would be addressed soon.
Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M. Thambidurai led the MPs to the Home Minister.
The sources said that Thambidurai urged Rajnath Singh to "intervene in the matter immediately" to ensure promulgation of an ordinance to end the ban on the conduct of Jallikattu.
The AIADMK also submitted a memorandum saying that the ban on Jallikattu was against the fundamental, religious and cultural rights of the people of Tamil Nadu.
On Thursday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed the issue with him.
