Respite from cold, but icy winds to continue on Friday in Delhi

New Delhi, Jan 19 (IANS) Rise in both the maximum and minimum temperatures and good daylight provided some respite from cold wave to Delhi residents on Thursday, as icy Himalayan winds continued to blow.

On Friday, weather conditions are expected to remain almost similar, with the residents will continue to feel the chill from icy winds, weather analysts said.

According to the Met Office, the maximum and minimum temperatures on Thursday settled at 21.3 and 6.4 degrees Celsius, over two degrees more than those on Wednesday.

"Friday is expected to be same as Thursday. The maximum temperature will, however, dip by one degree due to cold winds from Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh," said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to the IMD's forecast, the minimum temperature will start rising from January 21 and thereafter increase to 10 degrees Celsius on Sunday and Monday onwards.

"Winds from the north-west will stop due to the next Western Disturbance in the hilly region. This will help increase in the minimum temperature till January 25," Mahesh Palawat, Director of private weather forecaster Skymet told IANS.

Western Disturbance is a storm system originating in the Mediterranean Sea which causes rain and snowfall in the northwestern region of the Indian subcontinent.
