Jerusalem, Jan 18 (IANS) Israeli President Reuven Rivlin has received a delegation from the FC Barcelona Foundation at his residence here, in the Spanish football club's quest for social and cultural partnerships in foreign countries.
Rivlin on Tuesday acknowledged that his grandson is a Barcelona fan and stressed the need to build bridges through football, reports Efe.
Rivlin also praised Barcelona's activities and said: "Barcelona is a real example of teamwork. All of the charity work that its foundation does should be recognised all around the world, because football builds bridges and overcomes differences. Barcelona is a wonderful team."
The spokesman for the club's first vice-president Jordi Cardoner, who headed the delegation, said this visit represents the first initiative to explore the future of the integration of young people and their education through sports.
Additionally, Cardoner said in a statement, "I insist that such admiration for our club is universal and the way the team plays and the human and sporting conditions of our players are taking on an increasingly greater role as ambassadors of our projects."
The delegation's visit, which lasts for five days, started on Monday and will conclude on Thursday with a meeting with Jordi Cruyff, the sports director of Israeli Maccabi Tel Aviv.
