New Delhi, Jan 11 (IANs) Union Minister of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said that his ministry would give a grant of Rs 2 lakh to NGOs to take up road safety activities.
Stating that participation of citizens is most essential for making roads safe, Gadkari called upon people to help the local members of Parliament in identifying accident blackspots in their constituencies and take steps to rectify them.
"Ministry would give a grant of up to Rs 2 lakh to NGOs to take up road safety activities," said Gadkari.
He was speaking at a meeting convened for the NGOs working in the sector of road safety. About 170 NGOs from all over the country participated.
The meet was part of the ongoing activities to mark the 28th Road Safety Week being observed by the ministry from January 9-15, with the objective of spreading awareness about the issue.
