Shimla gets more snow, power supply remains snapped on fifth day

Shimla, Jan 10 (IANS) A cold wave continued to grip Himachal Pradesh with the state capital experiencing fresh snowfall on Tuesday.

Electricity supply remained snapped for the fourth consecutive day in large parts of Shimla as power lines were damaged badly due to falling trees on January 7.

 

The meteorological office here said the western disturbance would start retrieving from the region Tuesday onwards, but temperatures would nosedive further.

Tourist spots near Shimla, such as honeymooners' paradise Kufri, Fagu and Narkanda experienced moderate snowfall.

Shimla, which experienced one cm of snowfall, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.4 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature was 3.3 degrees.

Kalpa in Kinnaur district, which also experienced snow, saw a low of minus seven degrees Celsius, while it was seven degrees in Dharamsala and minus two degrees in Manali.

These towns recorded the maximum temperature at minus one degree Celsius, 12.8 degrees and 2.6 degrees respectively.

Officials said vehicular traffic on the Shimla-Theog-Rohru road via Kharapathar remained shut for the fourth day as a thick layer of snow covered the road.

Buses from Shimla town to Rampur and Kinnaur district were restored via Dhammi.

The internal roads in the tourist resorts of Shimla and Manali were too slippery for traffic after the last week's snowfall.

The weather bureau the weather would largely remain dry from January 11 to 13. Thereafter, snow is expected to occur in the state on January 14-16.
