Zurich, Jan 6 (EFE) The Zurich commercial court on Friday dismissed a lawsuit against world football governing body FIFA, by three international trade unions and one Bangladeshi worker, for alleged human rights violations in the construction of the World Cup facilities in Qatar for the 2022 tournament.
The Dutch trade union FNV, the Bangladeshi trade union BFTUC, the Bangladeshi construction and carpentry trade union, as well as the Bangladeshi worker Nadim Shariful Alam, had filed their case on December 8 before Swiss courts, according to the daily Neue Zurcher Zeitung, reports Efe.
FIFA welcomed the court decision and said that it "takes the issue of working conditions and human rights in connection with the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar very seriously".
The football governing body added that it "monitors the situation very closely and will continue to urge the Qatari authorities to ensure safe and decent working conditions", as FIFA President Gianni Infantino recently said.
