Jackal rescued from Delhi office, released in wild

New Delhi, Jan 4 (IANS) A female adult jackal that wondered into a government office in Vasant Vihar here was rescued and released in the wild on Wednesday.

The rescuers from animal welfare organisation Wildlife SOS said the animal appeared distressed and curled up in the corner of the office building.

"The jackal must have been chased by wild dogs and had taken up shelter in the residential area," a rescuer said.

Geeta Seshamani, co-founder of Wildlife SOS, said that finding a jackal in urban areas is uncommon but not rare.

"They are found in the Delhi Ridge and habitat loss, rampant encroachment and human activities in the region are forcing animals to move out into the urban areas," Seshamani said.
