New Delhi, Jan 3 (IANS) Complementing the government's recent demonetisation of high-value currency notes, state-run oil marketing companies (OMC) have started offering an upfront discount of Rs five on every cooking gas cylinder purchased online, an official statement said on Tuesday.
"Indian Oil, BPCL and HPCL are now offering an upfront discount of Rs 5 on every LPG refill to all LPG customers who will book and pay for their LPG cylinders online. Customers can make payment through existing online modes - net banking, credit and debit cards - at the time of web-booking their refills," a Petroleum Ministry statement said.
"Customers will get the discounted amount displayed on their screens, that is, refill RSP (retail sale price) minus (-) incentive amount of Rs 5 which they need to pay for their refill transactions," it said.
"The incentive will encourage more and more LPG consumers to go for cashless mode transactions," it added.
On November 8 of last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Rs 1,000 and 500 notes were no longer legal tender, saying the move was designed to eliminate black money, counterfeit currency and terror financing.
