Kolkata, Dec 30 (IANS) Trinamool MP Tapas Paul was on Friday arrested by the CBI in the Rose Valley chit fund scam, an official said.
"He has been arrested for further interrogation over his involvement in the financial exchanges in Rose Valley case," an agency official said.
The Bengali cine star, who was summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) three days ago, presented himself at the investigation agency's regional office here and was arrested after questioning
Paul was summoned by the agency on Tuesday along with fellow party MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay for interrogation in relation to the ponzi scam.
Following the arrest, the Trinamool accused the central government of doing "atrocity" politics and using central agencies to scare the party as they were protesting against the demonetisation move.
State BJP President Dilip Ghosh said the development was expected.
"Another Trinamool MP has been summoned but he is scared to present himself," he said referring to Bandyopadhyay.
