Bolivia's national coach leaves for club in Chile
La Paz, Dec 24 (IANS) Angel Guillermo Hoyos has resigned as coach of Bolivia's national team to helm first-division club Universidad de Chile, a source with the Bolivian Football Federation (FBF) said.

The 53-year-old Argentine communicated his decision to FBF vice president Marco Peredo late on Thursday, the source told Efe on Friday.

Hoyos signed a contract to coach the Bolivian national team until October 2017, when qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup conclude, but the deal provides for a review this month that leaves either party free to withdraw at no additional cost.

The FBF hired Hoyos in August to replace Julio Cesar Baldivieso as coach following the squad's dismal performance in World Cup qualifiers and in the Copa America Centenario.

Under Hoyos, Bolivia went 2-2-2 over six World Cup qualifying rounds, though FIFA threw out one of the wins and one of the ties after ruling that the Bolivian roster included a player who was ineligible.

Hoyos, a former player, began his coaching career in 2001 with FC Barcelona's reserve squad.
