Siemens, IBM to bring Watson Analytics to MindSphere
New Delhi, Dec 19 (IANS) IBM and Germany-based electronics company Siemens have collaborated to integrate IBM Watson Analytics and other tools into MindSphere -- the cloud-based Siemens operating system for the Internet of Things (IoT).

MindSphere is the open cloud platform from Siemens and a centerpiece of a powerful IoT operating system with data analytics and connectivity capabilities, tools for developers, applications and services.

"The integration of IBM technologies will further ease the use of advanced analytics by providing visualisation and dashboards for business customers and analytics tools via Application Programming Interface (APIs) for app-developers and data analysts," Siemens said in a statement on Monday.

IBM Watson analytics and other tools will help users in three ways.

Firstly, it will boost operational performance and reduces downtime by bringing intelligence to production equipment.

"Secondly, it will use data from connected machines helps to predict anomalies and failure patterns and to initiate corrective measures and thirdly, it will help to improve product quality and yield using quality analytics," the statement added.

Named after IBM founder Thomas J. Watson, IBM Watson is the supercomputer that combines artificial intelligence and analytical software for optimal performance as a "question answering" machine that thinks like a human.

MindSphere enables industrial enterprises to improve the efficiency of systems through the acquisition and analysis of large quantities of production data.
