New Delhi, Dec 19 (IANS) The last day of the Delhi Poetry Festival ended on a high note where Bob Dylan's "Knocking on Heaven's Door" got a Sufi twist along with Bollywood's love for poetry.
The fourth season of the festival which began on December 16 was organised by Poets Corner and held at NCUI Auditorium and Convention Centre here. It gave the poetry lovers a chance to interact with many famous poets.
With an aim of reviving and making the Hindi poetry culture popular in contemporary scenario, the festival saw speakers like William Dalrymple, Jeet Thayil, Sanjna Kapoor, Vidya Shah, Waseem Barelvi, Mangesh Dabral, Anamika, Vinita Nangia, Malini Awasthi, Kuldip Singh, Atul Tiwari, Arundhati Subramaniam, Keki Daruwalla, Danish Iqbal and many others.
Eminent theatre artist and Bollywood actor Annu Kapoor enthralled the audience with his narrative presentation of famous Laila Majnu love tale, accompanied by compositions of Kabir. He also shared his personal memories of how his parents inspired and influenced his career, and presented few stanzas wrote by his mother.
Remembering poet Kaifi Azmi, Kapoor also sang some classic Bollywood numbers of the golden era.
"Festivals like this are necessary to know what good is in store. We have a vast array of talents in arts and culture and this kind of events not only acts as a platform for artistes to showcase their talents but also for listeners to know how much of cultural diversity exists," Kapoor said.
Later, music composer Madan Gopal Singh took the audience to the magical world of Sufism with his songs and compositions. Starting with an ode to God, Singh sang a Heer from Waris Shah's tragic love story 'Heer-Ranjha' and later gave a rendition of Bob Dylan's song with a Sufi fusion.
Also at the event, poet Fefmi Badayuni was honoured for his contribution to the contemporary Hindi poetry genre.
