Abu Dhabi, Dec 14 (IANS/WAM) Two Emiratis have raised the United Arab Emirates (UAE) flag in Antarctica as part of a 10-day international expedition which explored renewable and alternative energy sources around the world.
Explorers Saeed Mohamed Al Nuaimi and Amira Al Hammadi also put up photographs of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Al Nuaimi said the trip was aimed at raising awareness on environmental issues and the effects of global warming.
He said they also wanted to focus on the level of damage caused by increasing water levels in the oceans and seek renewable and alternative energy solutions.
