Mumbai, Dec 13 (IANS) Garuda Indonesia on Tuesday launched its first direct flight with India, from Jakarta to Mumbai, to serve as the national carrier's first gateway to the region, a top official said here.
Garuda President and CEO Arif Wibowo said that thrice-weekly service would be operated via Bangkok every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to boost economic, social, cultural and tourism partnerships between the two countries.
"India is an important market for Indonesia and Garuda's flights on the Jakarta-Mumbai route will establish an important direct link between the two countries. It will help forge an even more solid bridge to enhance future partnerships between the two nations, both Asian new economic powerhouses," he said.
Presently, Indonesia is one of the largest markets to India with around 350,000 people travelling both on business and leisure.
Its Mumbai service will be operated by a Boeing 738 with two-class cabin configuration in 12 business class and 144 in economy class seats.
The flights GA-862 will depart Jakarta on all Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 12.55 p.m. and arrive Mumbai at 8.30 p.m. after a brief halt at Bangkok.
On its return journey, GA-861 will depart Mumbai the same evening at 11.20 p.m. and arrive Jakarta the following day at 10.05 a.m. after a brief halt at Bangkok.
