Goa CM likens sacking of ministers to surgical strike

Panaji, Dec 13 (IANS) Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday likened the sudden dismissal of two ministers from the ally Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party as a "surgical strike".

"I also had to do a surgical strike around midnight yesterday (Monday)," Parsekar said while referring to the sacking of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party leaders Sudin Dhavalikar (PWD Minister) and Deepak Dhavalikar (Factories and Boilers) from the BJP-led coalition government.

Parsekar was speaking at Bharatiya Janata Party's 'Vijay Sankalp' rally in Calangute assembly constituency in north Goa.

The event doubled up as a public celebration of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar's 61st birthday.

The sacking, Parsekar said, was warranted because of the constant barbs by the MGP leaders, who questioned his leadership as the Chief Minister.

"It had reached its limit... they were trying to taunt me. They thought I was a weak Chief Minister," Parsekar said.
