Village head killed by Maoists in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Dec 11 (IANS) Maoist guerrillas killed a 'Mukhiya' (village head) on the outskirts of the state capital on Sunday, police said.

According to police, Maoist guerrillas had abducted Jeevan Singh Munda on Saturday night. His bullet-riddled body was recovered on Sunday from Tamar, around 40 km from Ranchi.

They also left behind a pamphlet, wherein they termed Munda a 'police informer'.

Police sources say Munda was associated with a Maoist organisation in the past. He spent some time in jail and after he came out, contested the election of Mukhiya and won.

Munda was allegedly providing information about the Maoists to police, which apparently led to his killing.

Maoist guerrillas are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state.
