Ujjawala scheme to rehabilitate victims of trafficking: Minister


New Delhi, Dec 8 (IANS) The Ministry of Women and Child Development is implementing the Ujjawala scheme for rehabilitation and reintegration of the victims of trafficking, Krishna Raj, Minister of State, said here on Thursday.

Around 16,877 women and 12,158 children are reported to have been rescued from trafficking during 2015, says a report by the National Crime Records Bureau, Ministry of Home Affairs.

Ujjawala is a comprehensive scheme implemented by the Ministry for prevention of trafficking, with prevention, rescue, rehabilitation, re-integration and repatriation of victims of trafficking, the Minister said in a statement.

The scheme has been conceived primarily for the purpose of preventing trafficking on the one hand and rescue and rehabilitation of victims on the other.
