Rebel rocket fire kills 12 in Syria’s Aleppo

Damascus, Dec 8 (IANS) At least 12 people were killed and 64 wounded when a rebel rocket fire targeted government-controlled areas in the northern city of Aleppo.

The rockets slammed the neighbourhoods of Maysaloun, Masharqa, Martini and Azamiyeh in western Aleppo, Xinhua cited state news agency SANA as saying on Wednesday.

It came as the Syrian army has become in control over 80 per cent of the rebel-held areas in the eastern part of Aleppo, which explains the retaliatory attack by the rebels on government areas.

The army unleashed its offensive two weeks ago against the rebel-held areas in eastern Aleppo, as part of a major offensive launched recently to liberate the eastern part of the city from any rebel presence.

Over 30,000 civilians have fled eastern Aleppo over the past two weeks toward government-controlled areas in the western part of the city. The rebels captured eastern Aleppo in 2012.
