Gang of snatchers at Ghaziabad railway station busted

Ghaziabad, Dec 6 (IANS) A gang of snatchers at the Ghaziabad railway station has been busted and a number of high-end mobiles and a laptop recovered stolen from passengers, a police official said on Tuesday.

In a drive launched by the Government Railway Police (GRP), four snatchers were arrested after a tip off and 10 smart phones and a laptop seized from them, said Deputy Superintendent of Police, GRP, Randhir Singh.

During the interrogation, the snatchers said they jointly used to snatch items, five to six times a day, from passengers sitting at the window side.

Explaining their modus operandi, Ayyub, one of the arrested men, said that they used to operate in pairs, and while one of them hit the hand of a passenger using a device, causing it to fall onto the platform, the other picked it up and ran away. He said the gang members used to target passengers on long-distance trains and manage to steal five or six items daily.

Police are applying for custody of the robbers to unearth other cases related to snatching, the DSP added.
