New Delhi, Dec 4 (IANS) Two men were arrested for trying to extort Rs 25 lakh from a businessman by threatening to kill his son in West Delhi's Vivek Vihar, the city police said on Sunday.

According to the police, the two men were identified as Sanjeev Duggal, 51, a resident of Nihal Vihar area, who owned a business of pest control, and Shamrul Haq, 65, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, who worked as a rickshaw puller in Vivek Vihar area.

They were arrested by a team of the Delhi Police Crime Branch on a tip-off when they came to collect the extortion money from businessman Lalit Grover at Shivam Enclave intersection in Vivek Vihar area on Friday night, the police said.

"Sanjeev Duggal and Shamrul Haq were demanding Rs 25 lakh from Lalit Grover, a Delhi-based businessman, and threatened to kill his son," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.

During interrogation, Duggal told the police that Grover contacted him for pest control in his house in 2014. When he came to know that Grover was financially strong, he made a plan with his associate, Haq, to extort Rs 25 lakh from him.
