Tehran, Dec 5 (IANS) Iran's president said that the United States would violate a landmark nuclear accord between Iran and six world powers if it were to sign an extension of sanctions, media reports said.
Speaking in Iran's Parliament on Sunday, Hasan Rohani said the extension of the sanctions approved by the US Senate on Thursday violated the nuclear agreement and should they be extended into law, Iran would deliver a prompt response, Efe news agency reported.
"We are committed to an acceptable implementation of the deal but in response to non-commitment, violation or hesitation in its implementation, we will act promptly," Rohani said.
Although the Senate voted to extend the Iran Sanctions Act by 10 years, President Barack Obama still needs to sign his approval for it to become law.
Parliament speaker Ali Larijani also called on lawmakers to adopt reciprocal measures should the sanctions go through into law.
