Female-led '21 Jump Street' spin-off in works

Los Angeles, Dec 4 (PTI) Sony Pictures is working on a female-led "21 Jump Street" spin-off movie.

The studio has tapped "22 Jump Street" co-writer Rodney Rothman to script the project, which will focus on a pair of undercover female police officers who are connected to the Jump Street programme, according to Deadline.

It was also reported that the screenwriter has an "an eye toward directing" the project, while Neal Moritz is on board to produce.

Rothman wrote the most recent draft script for MIB 23, which sees Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill reprise their "21 Jump Street" movie roles as Jenko and Schmidt, and "The Muppets" helmer James Bobin loosely attached to direct.

However, Hill said in August that he was unsure that the crossover "Men in Black" and "Jump Street" would happen.

The "Jump Street" female spin-off has already gone through two sets of screenwriting duos, in the forms of Broad City's Lucia Aniello and Paul Downs, as well as Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux.
