Bodies of two newborn kids recovered from Bengal
Kolkata, Dec 3 (IANS) Bodies of two newborn kids were recovered from two different districts in West Bengal on Saturday, police said.

"Corpse of a newborn baby girl, aged between 1-2 days, was recovered from a deserted bag beside the National Highway two in Hooghly district's Bhadreswar on Saturday morning," said an officer from local police station.

"We haven't received any claim for the dead body yet. The body is sent to Hooghly Sadar Hospital for autopsy," he added.

Another newborn baby girl was found dead in Burdwan district's Jamuria on the same day.

"We recovered the dead kid from the grounds of a burning ghat in Jamuria. Investigation is on to find out whether it is linked to child trafficking racket or not," Sandip Das, Officer in charge of Jamuria police station told IANS.

Meanwhile in Burdwan district, a woman was caught while allegedly trying to steal a newborn baby from Kalna sub-divisional hospital during the visiting hours on Saturday.

The woman was severely beaten up by the people present in the hospital and later handed over to police.

"She was caught red-handed while taking away a kid from the hospital," an eye-witness of the incident said.

Five newborn kids have been recovered so far in the last four days amid increased police vigil after the unearthing of child trafficking racket in the state last month.
