Two pensioners die after collapsing in bank queues


Kolkata, Dec 2 (IANS) Two elderly people died while standing in the bank queue in West Bengal, as people's struggle for cash continued on the second day of a new month.

A 72-year-old pensioner collapsed and died while in the bank queue in North 24 Pargana district's Maslandapur on Friday, while another veteran lost his life in South 24 Pargana district's Raidighi waiting for long hours to withdraw money.

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee later condoled the old man's death in Maslandapur in a social media website.

"Sad. Rabin Mukherjee from Maslandpur (Habra), 72 year old, former central govt employee and a pensioner collapsed today in bank queue. My condolences to his family. 82 lives have been lost till now," she tweeted.

Officer of Raidighi police station confirmed the other death - of Viswadeb Naskar.

"An old man named Viswadeb Naskar (80), collapsed while standing in a queue in front of a United Bank of India branch near Mahamaya hotel in Raidighi on Friday afternoon.He was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead," police said.
