Rabat, Dec 2 (IANS/MAP) The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation has dismantled a terror cell composed of eight pro-Islamic State individuals in the cities of Fez and Tangier, the Interior Ministry announced on Friday.
The operation was conducted on Thursday and led to the seizure of a shotgun, ammunition, bladed weapons as well as documents containing suspicious chemical formulas.
The cell includes two former detainees in terror-related cases, who planned terrorist attacks in Morocco and abroad, the Ministry said in a statement.
Preliminary investigations show that the cell members have close links with IS active elements in Syria and Iraq as part of coordination to recruit and send Moroccan volunteers for jihad in the ranks of IS, the statement said.
The recruitment of extremist elements to be sent to Syria and Iraq is intended to enable them receive military training in IS camps before returning to Morocco to carry out terrorist plots, the Interior Ministry added.
