Karan Singh renominated as chairman of Auroville Foundation

New Delhi, Dec 2 (IANS) Eminent scholar and Congress MP Karan Singh has been re-nominated as the Chairperson of the Governing Board of Auroville Foundation, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, an official statement said on Friday.

"Singh has been re-nominated for a term of four years vide Human Resource Development's notification No. 27-9/2012-UU dated 23rd November, 2016," the ministry said in a statement.

Auroville is an experimental township in the state of Tamil Nadu, with some parts in the Union Territory of Puducherry.

It is recognized as an international living experiment in human unity, endorsed by the UNESCO and supported by the Indian government It is also a centre for applied research in environmentally sustainable living practices, experimenting new system of education, social research and cultural activities.

The Auroville Foundation consists of research, educational, service and commercial units dedicated to the promotion of the ideals of Auroville and of units dedicated to the uplifting of the population living in the villages surrounding it.
