Four robbers arrested after gunfight
New Delhi, Dec 2 (IANS) Delhi Police on Friday said it has busted a gang of robbers, arresting four of its members after a brief gunfight, while six others managed to escape.

Sunil, 30, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly, Krishan Kumar, 30, Manish, 23, and Goverdhan Vishwakarma, 26, all Delhi residents, were arrested from near Vishwakarma Colony in south Delhi at around 11.40 p.m. on Thursday after police received a tip-off about a gang of robbers coming to commit dacoity in the MB road area.

"We made elaborate arrangement post demonetisation in view of increased sensitivity on salary payment day in Okhla industrial area at Badarpur and Pul Prahaladpur to prevent criminal activities like snatching and robbery," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Baaniya.

A waiting police team, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Amit Kaushik, spotted two cars - a Maruti and a Honda City, stopped the Maruti and asked those inside to come out, Baaniya said.

The gang members, finding themselves trapped, started firing at the police team. Police fired back and managed to apprehend four, while the other six in the Honda City managed to escape, police said, adding efforts are on to arrest them.
