Soldier killed in Jammu to be cremated in Tripura


Agartala, Dec 1 (IANS) The body of Naik Chittaranjan Debbarma, who was killed in a terror attack near Jammu on Tuesday, was brought to Tripura on Thursday for cremation on Friday.

The cremation will take place with state honours in his village.

The body was received at the Agartala airport by West Tripura Additional District Magistrate and Collector Sanjoy Chakraborty, Sub-divisional Magistrate (Sadar) Samit Roy Chowdhury and army officials.

The body was brought in an Indian Army aircraft.

Seven soldiers, including two officers, were killed on Tuesday when suicide bombers stormed a military base at Nagrota near Jammu. Three attackers were gunned down.

Debbarma, 36, who joined army's engineering wing in 1998, is survived by his wife Namita, aged parents and two children aged 11 and 7 years.

In a condolence message, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said the government expressed solidarity with the soldier's family.

"Our brave Tripura soldier Chittaranjan Debbarma was martyred while protecting our country. We stand with his family in tough times," Sarkar said.

Earlier, 34-year-old Border Security Force Havildar Sambhu Satmura was killed in a landmine blast along the Indo-Pakistan border in Poonch district on November 22. Satmura was a resident of Agartala.
