I-League inspects Rabindra Sarovar, Barasat stadiums

Kolkata, Nov 29 (IANS) I-League authorities are happy with facilities at the Rabindra Sarovar stadium while work at the Barasat stadium is still to be done, the league's CEO Sunando Dhar said after inspecting both the venues on Tuesday.

City giants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan had shown Rabindra Sarovar and Barasat Stadium as options to play their home matches this season, besides agreeing the Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri will host the Kolkata Derby.

"If the facilities at the Rabindra Sarovar stadium is retained, we are fine with the venue," I-League CEO Sunando Dhar told IANS.

City's Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) have built temporary facilities along with floodlights which both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan have to negotiate with ATK whether they can be kept for the I-League starting January 7.

On the Barasat stadium, also an option due to the unavailability of the Salt Lake stadium which is being refurbished for the U-17 World Cup, Dhar said, "Some work is still to be done. We will be writing to the Indian Football Association, West Bnegal football's parent body, for them to have a meeting with both the clubs and work out how the work is to be done before the I-League starts," he said.
