Rajya Sabha adjourned till 2 p.m.

New Delhi, Nov 28 (IANS) The Rajya Sabha on Monday saw repeated adjournments in the pre-lunch session and was finally adjourned till 2 p.m. amidst pandemonium by the opposition.

Earlier, as the upper house met for the day at 11 a.m., it paid homage to Cuban leader Fidel Castro, who passed away on Saturday, and observed a minute's silence in his memory.

Soon after, the issue of 'Akrosh Divas', called by a combined opposition, was raised.

Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu raised objection to it and requested the Chair to conduct the Zero Hour as per "procedure".

The opposition members trooped to the Chairman's podium and raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Chair adjourned the house for half an hour.

As the house was reconvened at 11.40 a.m., the opposition demanded Modi's presence in the house.

Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Sitaram Yechury sought the Chair's ruling over his contempt of the house notice against Modi.

Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien, however, rejected the motion.

The opposition members again came to the well and started making noise. Kurien adjourned the house till 12 noon.

At 12 noon, the house was adjourned again till 2 p.m. as the opposition refused to relent.
