Kim Jong-un sends condolences over Castro's death
Seoul, Nov 27 (IANS) North Korean leader Kim Jong-un expressed his condolences over the death of former Cuban President Fidel Castro, whom he called the supreme leader of the Cuban revolution and outstanding leader of the people, media reports said.

In a missive sent to Cuban President Raul Castro, Kim expressed his sadness over the death of Fidel Castro on Saturday, Efe news agency reorted.

"I express deep condolences to you, the Cuban party, government and people and the bereaved family members of the deceased," Kim said.

The letter noted that Fidel Castro honoured the sovereignty and dignity of Cuba as a true leader of the people, and had devoted all his life to the prosperity of the country and the happiness of the people.

"Though he passed away, the precious feats he performed will remain forever in the hearts of the peoples of our two countries and the hearts of progressive mankind," Kim said.

Despite ideological differences between Havana and Pyongyang, the two nations have largely maintained good relations.

Fidel Castro's first and only visit to North Korea was in 1986, during which he met the country's founder Kim Il-sung, and his son and successor Kim Jong-il, the current leader's grandfather and father, respectively.
