New Delhi, Nov 25 (IANS) The Lok Sabha was disrupted over the demonetisation issue for the seventh straight day on Friday, losing the day's business to ruckus and protests.
The first adjournment came shortly after the house met. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan tried to conduct the Question Hour, but she could not due to the ruckus.
The house was adjourned until 12 noon.
Adding to the chaos, a man attempted to jump from the visitors' gallery onto the floor of the house, but he was stopped in time.
The man was identified as Rakesh Singh Baghel, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan announced when the house re-assembled at 12 noon.
The man was interrogated by security officials. He said he was upset over demonetisation.
The Speaker also informed the house that the man may be freed with a warning after inquiry.
"...The house may be aware that today at around 11.20 a.m., after the house got adjourned, one Shri Rakesh Singh Baghel, resident of Nizampur, District Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, who was watching the proceedings from the Public Gallery of the Lok Sabha, tried to jump to the floor of the house."
"The security officials of Parliament overpowered him and took him into their custody. He may be released on warning after an inquiry by the Parliament security is over. I hope the house agrees," the Speaker said.
Meanwhile, opposition members said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should apologise for calling them "supporters of black money".
"We demand that the Prime Minister withdraw his comments and apologise for the comments he has made," Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay said.
"When we are trying to find a way on how the house can be made to function, the PM has made comments that have hurt the opposition," he added.
The Speaker continued with the Zero Hour for a while even as the opposition members created ruckus, before adjourning the house for the day.
Earlier, the Speaker expressed condolences to those who died in the Mumbai terror attacks of November 2008.
"We pay tributes to those who died in the Mumbai terror attacks... Today we pledge again to defeat terrorism in our country and the whole world," the Speaker said.
She also lauded the security forces who fought the terrorists and the house observed a minute of silence as a mark of respect to those who dies in the terror attack.
Mahajan also urged the members to uphold the principles of Constitution ahead of the Constitution Day, on November 26.
"Let us take pledge to strengthen freedom, equality, justice and brotherhood mentioned in the Constitution," she said.
