New Delhi, Nov 24 (IANS) The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till noon amid loud protests by opposition demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's response on demonetisation.
As the Deputy Speaker P. J. Kurien started the Zero Hour allowing former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to speak, the other opposition members disrupted the proceedings.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley intervened and said: "Former Prime Minister is entitled to participate in debate but you can't say I'll hold up the debate and give the opposition a special opportunity to speak. We should continue the debate."
"I am sorry, if there is no debate, nobody from the opposition will be allowed to speak. This Zero Hour is a continuation, an opportunity and you are not condcuting the zero hour in the normal maner of a zero hour. If it is on the issue of demonetisation or currency issue, the opposition should start the debate. Let Manmohan Singh speak in the debate. We'll answer him," he added.
But the disruptions by the opposition continued and the Deputy Speaker adjourned the House till noon.
