Will hold Jan Aakrosh Diwas on November 28: Maken

New Delhi, Nov 23 (IANS) The Delhi unit of the Congress on Wednesday protested against "faulty implementation" of demonetisation and said 'Jan Aakrosh Diwas' (public resentment day) will be observed on the issue across the country on November 28.

Hundreds of protesting Congress workers raised slogans against the Centre, like 'Modi-ji se ek sawal, kaise laye aata daal' and 'Befikra hai dhanna seth, garib ghum rahe khali pet'.

However, the protestors were stopped by police while they were on way to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.

Addressing party workers, Congress Delhi unit chief Ajay Maken said: "We will observe the Jan Aakrosh Diwas against demonetisation across the country on November 28."

Maken said the party's fight is for the poor and marginalised people who have been hit the most.

"There is a big scam behind demonetisation as the poor people's money will be used to write off bad bank loans of big defaulters."

The Congress leader said the whole county has come to a standstill as the Modi government had forced citizens to stand in queues at banks to withdraw their own money.

The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had nationalised 14 banks, wherein the rich people's money was distributed among the poor, but now the reverse is happening, Maken said.

The Congress leader rued: "Following the 'Tughlaqi farman' (dictatorial decision) on demonetisation issued 16 days ago, the entire country has been driven to a financial emergency and anarchy."

The government had, on November 8, spiked high-denomination currency of Rs 500 and Rs 1, 000 to "curb black money and corruption".

Maken also said on Wednesday that at least 70 people have died across the country while standing in bank queues.
