Man held for extorting money, posing as police officer in Delhi
New Delhi, Nov 23 (IANS) A Delhi man has been arrested for allegedly running an extortion racket by posing as a police officer and public prosecutor, the city police said on Wednesday.

According to the police, Shahid, 27, used to extort money from prominent persons on the pretext of "settling" non-bailable warrants against them issued by the courts in cases filed by the Reserve Bank of India.

He was nabbed earlier in the week following a complaint of a former AIIMS dean that Shahid tried to extort money from him claiming there was a non-bailable warrant against him.

"Posing as police officer, he would call his victims to put them in fear of arrest in false court cases filed by the RBI. He then would ask them to contact the public prosecutor concerned with the case on another number," said Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Yadav.

"Posing then as a prosecutor, he would ask them to deposit money in certain bank accounts in return for settlement of the case," Yadav added.
