Maliwal pins hopes on court for women's safety
New Delhi, Nov 23 (IANS) Hoping to get support from the judiciary, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Wednesday said that women after being raped by men are "raped again by the system", as the government has not taken adequate steps for women's safety.

"Minors are being raped. Rapist rapes once, while the system rapes 100 times more," Maliwal tweeted.

"I am begging for a year, nobody listened. The court is my last hope," she added.

The DCW approached the Delhi High Court after two minor girls were raped here in the last two days and told the court that the central government has not taken adequate steps on its recommendations regarding the safety of women in the national capital.

A three-and-half-year-old girl was raped in Sarai Rohilla area here and a four-year-old girl was raped and murdered in Keshavpuram area.

"Four hours of hearing in the court today. DCW made party to Nirbhaya case. Notice issued to Centre and State on High Level Committee, Special Task Force, police reforms etc," Maliwal wrote in the next tweet.

She said that 55 recommendations related to women safety had been sent to the central government.

The women's body had also sought direction for the committee to meet once within a month, to take decisions and monitor implementation of the same on issues concerning women's safety.

It said the central government should allot the Nirbhaya Fund for installing CCTV cameras in DTC buses and at bus shelters.

The DCW also sought notification of the Delhi Victim Compensation Scheme, 2015 and to provide reasons and fix responsibility for the delay of over one year in notifying the crucial scheme, enhancing the compensation amount for rape and acid attack victims.
