Telecom firms to waive mobile banking charges till Dec 31: Minister

New Delhi, Nov 22 (IANS) Aiming to help the common people who are coping with cash crunch following demonetisation, the telecom operators have decided to waive off charges for mobile banking services till December 31, 2016, Communications Minister Manoj Sinha said on Tuesday.

"To facilitate use of electronic banking facility and reduce difficulty to the common man, telecom operators have decided to waive off charges for mobile banking services till December 31, 2016," the minister said in his tweet.

"At present, a charge is being levied by telecom operators for the mobile banking, which is commonly known as USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) charge," he added.

Following the government's demonetisation of 500 and 1,000 rupee notes, people are increasingly moving towards mobile banking and net banking.
