Complaints against 152 advertisements in August upheld: Ad watchdog


Mumbai, Nov 22 (IANS) The advertising industry's watchdog, the Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) on Monday said that it upheld complaints against 152 advertisements out of 209 in August for either misleading consumers or not able to substantiate their claim.

"Out of 152 advertisements against which complaints were upheld, 27 belonged to the healthcare category, 66 to the education category, followed by 17 in the food & beverages category, 10 in personal care category, 5 in clothing and accessories category and 27 advertisements from other categories," the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) said in a statement.

The CCC found the claims of 27 advertisements in health care products or services to be either misleading or false or not adequately/scientifically substantiated and hence violating ASCI's Code, it said.

In the education category, it found claims in the advertisements by 66 different advertisers were not substantiated and violated the council's guidelines.
