Jayalalithaa shifted to special room from ICU at Chennai hospital

Chennai, Nov 19 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa was on Saturday evening shifted to a special room from the Intensive Care Unit in the Apollo Hospitals here, a senior AIADMK leader said.

"She has been shifted to a special spacious room just now," AIADMK spokesperson C. Ponnaiyan told IANS.

Apollo Hospitals Chairman Pratap C. Reddy had earlier said Jayalalithaa is fine and she can go home whenever she chooses to.

Reddy had said Jayalalithaa is breathing and sleeping well, and is on ventilator only for 15 minutes daily.

The 68-year-old AIADMK supremo was admitted to the hospital for treatment of fever and dehydration on September 22.

The doctors later said she needed a longer hospital stay as she was suffering from infection and put her on respiratory support.

According to Apollo Hospitals, a team of specialist doctors -- cardiologists, respiratory physicians, consultants for infectious diseases, diabetologist and endocrinologist -- treated her.
