Chandigarh, Nov 18 (IANS) Israel's President Reuven Rivlin on Friday visited the Indo-Israeli Centre of Excellence for vegetables near Haryana's Gharaunda town to see the achievements of the joint agriculture research and innovation project.

The President was received by Haryana's Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister O P. Dhankar and Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Karan Dev Kamboj as well as senior officers of the Haryana government.

Rivlin was shown the work done by scientists, agriculture experts and farmers at the centre to help improve agriculture techniques in Haryana and neighbouring areas.

The centre for vegetables in Karnal district, 140 km from here, has been operational since January 2011.

Both countries share technology and jointly undertake protected cultivation of various vegetables, including tomatoes, cucumbers and capsicum, at the centre.

Another Indo-Israel joint Centre of Excellence for Fruits was inaugurated in Sirsa district in May 2013.
