New Delhi, Nov 18 (IANS) The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) on Friday demanded that the income tax be done away with from the next financial year.
BMS General Secretary Virjesh Upadhyay said that the Union Finance Ministry has called a meeting to seek suggestions for the 2017 Budget.
He added that during the meeting, the BMS will raise its demand for doing away with the income tax.
"The Prime Minister repeatedly said during his election campaign that he will do away with the income tax. Now that Goods and Services Tax has been passed, there is no need to collect income tax. So, it should be scrapped from the next financial year," the BMS said in a statement.
It also welcomed the central government's decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.
The statement added that the government's decision to increase minimum wages from Rs 102 per day to Rs 350 per day should be implemented across the nation.
