New Delhi, Nov 17 (IANS) Three persons of a gang have been arrested for a robbery which resulted in the murder of a businessman near Civil Lines Metro station here, the Delhi Police said on Thursday.
The businessman, identified as Dharas Chhabra, and his father Ashok were attacked by the robbers while they were going home from their shop in Sadar Bazar area around 9.40 p.m. on November 7, a police officer said.
The attackers, identified as Dharmender Sokia, Ganga Sahib and Arun, brutally stabbed Chhabra and Ashok while trying to loot Rs 8.5 Lakh from the businessman. Ashok also received a bullet injury during the attack.
Though the robbers looted the entire amount, Rs 3.24 lakh of the looted cash has been recovered from them, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav said.
"Police arrested them following a tip-off. One of the gang members, Darmender Sokia, was found near IC Block on Desh Bandhu Road and later his two associates, Ganga Sahib and Arun, were arrested from their hideouts," the police officer said.
Efforts are on to arrest the other gang members, including Haseen and Abdul, who are still missing and on the run, Yadav said.
Chhabra and his father used to park their car near the Metro station and take a rickshaw to reach their shop from there, according to the police.
Chhabra died while undergoing treatment at St. Stephen's Hospital on November 12.
A case of robbery and attempt to murder was registered at Civil Lines police station. A murder charge was added to it after the death of Chhabra, the police said.
