Panaji, Nov 16 (IANS) The Congress in Goa on Wednesday demanded an apology from Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar for what the party spokesperson Jitendra Deshprabhu said was "spineless prostration" before Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"Parsekar should immediately apologise to the people of Goa. It was so humiliating that the Chief Minister went down to the level exhibited in the video clip, even pushing a glass of water to the Prime Minister when he demanded," Deshprabhu told the media here.
The 42-second clip that went viral on social media shows Parsekar with folded hands sitting besides Modi during his visit to Goa on November 13.
"Throughout the recording, Parsekar is seen smiling and with folded hands while Modi appears to ignore him. This is just spineless prostration. If this is the honour meted out to the people of Goa, what would be the hurt?" Deshprabhu said sarcastically.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, however, defended Parsekar's action.
"Modi ji is not just the Prime Minister of India, but also one of our tallest leaders. Showing our leaders respect is a culture within the BJP. Perhaps that is not the case with the Congress, which is why they make such hollow observations," a Goa BJP spokesperson said.
