Rewari (Haryana), Nov 16 (IANS) Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said the Centre had approved an army recruitment sub-centre in Rewari district of south Haryana.
"I was asked by Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar in Delhi on Wednesday to make the announcement about the setting up of the recruitment sub-centre in Rewari within a month," Singh said while addressing a public rally here to pay tribute to freedom fighter Rao Tula Ram.
Gurugram Member of Parliament and Minister of State Rao Inderjit Singh, the great-grandson of Rao Tula Ram, said an army recruitment centre was set up in Gurugram (formerly Gurgaon) three decades ago which was injustice to the area people.
He said Ahirwal region sends the maximum number of soldiers to the armed forces from Haryana and had a large number of ex-servicemen among its residents.
The rally was organised at Nasirpur ground near Rewari in Narnaul area by Rao Inderjit Singh to pay tributes to nearly 5,000 Indian soldiers, led by Rao Tula Ram, who were killed on November 16, 1857, while fighting the British Army.
Parrikar was scheduled to attend the rally but cancelled it due to ill-health.
