Srinagar, Nov 15 (IANS) The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday dismissed some policemen for showing cowardice during weapon-snatching by militants, an official said.
Special Director General, Coordination and Law and Order, S.P. Vaid told IANS that after carrying out investigations into weapon-snatching incidents by militants from policemen posted on guard duties during the last four months, it was established that some of these policemen had exhibited cowardice by showing no resistance during these incidents.
"Some of these policemen, most of them posted in Kulgam and Anantnag districts, were found guilty of cowardice during weapon snatching incidents by militants.
"In other cases where the deployed guards fired even one shot in retaliation, weapon snatching by militants was thwarted. One of our brave policeman lost his life while resisting such an attempt by militants," said Vaid.
"It was, therefore, decided to dismiss from service some policemen who had been found guilty of showing cowardice," he added.
During the last four months, militants had managed to snatch dozens of weapons from policemen posted on guard duties, mostly at places where members of minority Kashmiri Pandit community still continue to live in the Valley.
