Gurugram, Nov 15 (IANS) The Haryana government on Tuesday issued an order to take stringent action against those business houses which are not accepting cheques, demand drafts and online payment from customers, an official said.
Haryana's Chief Secretary D.S. Dhesi on Tuesday issued orders to Deputy Commissioners to lodge complaint against business houses that refuse to accept payments from the customers in certain modes.
"It has been reported that certain business houses, including hospitals, caterers, tent houses and others, are not accepting cheques, demand drafts and online payment transfers from customers," Dhesi said in his letter to Deputy Commissioners.
"After consideration of the matter, the government has directed that in such cases customers may be advised to lodge their complaint to concerned Deputy Commissioners for an appropriate action against such establishments," the top bureaucrat said in his letter.
Anxious crowds massed outside Gurugram banks to withdraw money or deposit or exchange their demonetised currency notes as most of the Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) remained cashless here for the sixth consecutive day.
People gathered in large numbers outside over 700 branches of various banks and more than 1,300 ATM booths to withdraw cash only to find that the ATMs in the millennium city were cashless.
People across the city found that most of ATM booths of government as well as private banks were not working.
Same was the situation at the ATM booths in upscale New Gurugram areas.
According to a source, contractors and some factory owners have pressed their labourers into service to exchange their Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes demonetised on November 8.
Most of the people facing problems in getting their old currency notes exchanged, however, said the demonetisation was the right step.
It will cause inconvenience to the common man for a week or two but will help the country in the long run, they said.
