Golfers Shankar, Mukesh among top contenders for IndianOil Masters

Digboi, Nov 15 (IANS) A number of top golfers, including defending champion Shankar Das and six-time champion Mukesh Kumar, will vie for the top honours when the 17th edition of the IndianOil SERVO Masters Golf kicks off at the Digboi Golf Links here on Wednesday.

The PGTI-approved tournament's prize money has been increased to Rs.35 lakhs in this edition.

Besides Shankar and Mukesh, the field will feature some of India's top professionals in Shamim Khan, Udayan Mane, Kunal Bhasin, Anura Rohana, M. Dharma, Honey Baisoya, Harendra Gupta and Amardip Singh Malik, among the total of 97 golfers, which include four amateurs.

The top 50 players and ties will make the cut after round two.

Australia's Kunal, winner of the 2013 edition, will be leading the foreign challenge this year. Besides him, the other foreign players participating are Sri Lankan Anura Rohana and Germany's Sean Einhaus.

The local professionals in the field are Deben Bhumiz, Biren Karmakar, Bipon Mura, Jackson Naidu and Kishore Kumar Talukdar while the two local amateurs in the field are Deepraj Chetia and Zakir Hussain.
