35 suspects involved in violent attacks arrested in Myanmar
Yangon, Nov 16 (IANS) Thirty five suspects involved in violent attacks on three border posts in Myanmar's western Rakhine state, were arrested by the authorities, officials said on Wednesday.

The suspects were rounded up when the government troops conducted area clearance operation in several villages in Maungtaw over the weekend, reported Xinhua news.

Interrogations of the captured suspects were underway.

On Monday, some 17 houses in Kykhutchaung village in Maungtaw were torched by violent attackers.

According to earlier reports, a total of 25 attackers were killed in Sunday clashes in some villages near Maungtaw as the government troops cleared the area.

A series of clashes had broken out after nine policemen and five soldiers were killed in a violent attack by armed men on October 9 on three border posts.

Islamic extremists were suspected to be involved in the attacks, the government said.

A dusk-to-dawn curfew is still on in Maungtaw since October 10.
