Provide relief to farmers, say Akhilesh

Lucknow, Nov 14 (IANS) In the wake of difficulties being faced by farmers on account of demonetisation of high-value currency notes, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday demanded relief for them from the Union government.

He said that due to this sudden decision of the union government, farmers are facing immense difficulties in arranging seed and fertilisers in the Rabi crop season.

Yadav said as a result of the demonetisation, the farmers are also not able to utilise the earnings of the Kharif harvest and put these to their use.

In the ongoing marriage season, a large number of marriages are also scheduled in the farmer families, and the demonetisation is causing them acute problems in conducting these marriages, he said.

The Chief Minister also said that if the Union government is actually concerned about the farmers, it should rethink over the issue and take immediate steps to end their miseries.
