Sassari (Italy), Nov 10 (IANS/AKI) A 68-year-old man has confessed to beating and burning his 66-year-old wife to death at their home in rural Sardinia after she announced she was leaving him, police said on Thursday.
Nicola Amadu called emergency services saying he had attacked his wife, doused her in petrol and set her alight, and paramedics raced to the scene but were unable to save the woman.
She died of almost 100 percent burns to her body at the couple's apartment on the outskirts of the city of Sassari.
The woman, named by local daily La Nuova Sardegna as Anna Doppiu, had recently told her husband that she intended to separate from him and had been to see a lawyer.
